Description

British Lions Chinese Dragons Two Day Conference and Opening of the Linked Exhibition

Examining the significant contribution people of Chinese descent have made to the British Armed Forces throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

Conference: Wednedsay 5th - Thursday 6th July 2017, 9:30 - 16:00

Exhibition Opening: Wednesday 5th July 2017, 16:00 - 18:00

The conference will bring together academics, heritage professionals and authors from around the world to explore the multi-faceted history of the British Chinese Armed Forces. We hope that the conference will provide a platform to discuss the significant contribution that Chinese people have made to the British military throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

The British Chinese Armed Forces Heritage project has curated a comprehensive historical archive created from the unheard voices of Chinese ex-servicemen as well as their families, their descendants, and their comrades. The archive is formed of over 40 extended oral history interviews and contains personal reflections, family records and memorabilia.

We hope this archive will become the basis for the generation of a series of community-related initiatives to ensure the heritage and legacy of the Chinese ex-servicemen is duly recognised and celebrated in the years to come.

The exhibition, British Lions Chinese Lions is the second of a series of exhibitions and events that aims to shine a light on the hidden history of the British Chinese Armed Forces.

Refreshments and a contributory lunch voucher will be provided.
